To encourage and promote the growth of youth lacrosse at the middle school and grade school levels throughout the state of Indiana by establishing and maintaining organized opportunities to increase youth lacrosse participation, fair competition and good sportsmanship.
The IYLA was created in the spring of 2007 with the purpose of forming a centralized youth lacrosse organization in the state of Indiana that would meet the growth needs of the sport. In its 1st year, focus and attention was given to formalizing the boy’s 7th and 8th grade middle school league. Middle schools in Indiana began informally competing in 1998 with 4 teams located in the Indianapolis metropolitan area and has grown to competition involving 18 teams in IYLA’s first inaugural season at the boy’s 7/8 grade league. Expectations are for continued growth at this level and the introduction of a girl’s league and boy’s youth leagues in the near future.
